It is no surprise that most high-worth sportsmen and women have earned more money from sponsorship deals and appearances than from actually playing their sport.

All of the sportsmen on this list have earned over $1 billion throughout their careers. There are no sportswomen on this list, which just shows how far we have to go to reach earning equality between men and women. Hopefully sportswomen will appear on this list in the not too distant future.

It is fair to say that all of the sportsmen on this list have become global icons, as well as being hugely successful in their chosen sport.
